How I Protect My Hair from the “Heat Happy” stylist

My hair worn straight. No pressing only blow dried on low heat, and straighten with a ceramic flat iron..

2 weeks after straightening my hair. No heat damage occured. I ALWAYS prep my hair before going to see my stylist for ANY services providing HEAT. 1. Deep condition 2. Bring my OWN hair protector 3. REQUEST NO press and curl! Ladies YOU DO have CONTROL over what someone does to your hair. Don’t just sit in the chair and let them do whatever.

For starters I refuse a press every time I go to my stylist, I request they blow dry on low heat, and then use the ceramic flat irons to straighten my hair. I also bring my own heat protectant called TRESemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Hair Spray.. This works WONDERS for my hair. I have type 4B and 4C hair, my curl pattern is alot looser in the back and sides of my head. The middle is more coarse. I’m especially careful to add a bit more to those areas with this product. I also deep condition my hair before I’m scheduled for heat. I’m very big on protective styling but these past style I burned my ass with it.. Cut too far up into some damn box braids and fucked my shit up.. I was in TEARS!!! But I realized that it was ONLY hair and that it would grow back.. You will see a pic of what I’m talking about… All chopped and screwed… GRRRRRR!!! Normally I only straighten my hair for length checking and to trim my ends. Because with my lifestyle I can’t simply keep my hair straightened. For one it can be damaging to the health of your tresses, secondly, I’m an AVID gym goer. So it would be a waste of my COINZ! Annnnnd like the internet sensation SWEET BROWN says “Ain’t NOBODY GOT TIME FO DAT!!” My next post I will be talking about my current protective style! Also displaying the EPIC fuck up done on my behalf…. Stay tuned! Love my curl girls!

Weekend Hair (Twist Out Mohawk)

I decided to wear a twist out this weekend versus my usual protective style of a half wig! I periodically wear my natural hair w/o the ends tucked, but as we all know in the natural hair community, this is not a safe practice, if you’re trying to retain length! I rocked my hair like this all of 2 days. I did the twist on wet hair, after my cowash routine, then I flat twisted my hair on the sides, and free style twist throughout. I find that using small perm rods work best for me in reducing the shrinkage for this type of style. Today is Monday, I will no flexi-rod my hair and wear that for 2 days.. Then I will co wash again, and braid my hair into 7 plaits in preparation for my half wig. I really don’t like to mess in my hair, because I am on a goal for MAXIMUM length retention. It has been exactly 1 year and 1 month since I BC’ed. I am looking forward to where my hair will be year 2! Until next time my loves! Love and LEARN your hair, and it shall FLOURISH!!! Be loved! Be pride! Be YOU! MUAHHH!

My Holy Grail WIG!

Outre “Quick Weave” style “Tammy” color 1B/30

The picture above is me rocking one of my FAVORITE wigs!! I have been wearing her since 2009. And with the particular style, it only gets better with time. It starts off somewhat silky, but after week 3 it becomes more full, and kinky in texture! LOVE IT!!! For years I have been wearing this style in a 1B.. So this past weekend, I asked if they had my girl in any other color schemes.. and “bet cha by golly wow!!!” THEY DID!!!! When I tell you I was up in the beauty supply store hitting the DOUGIE! I ain’t lying!! LOL!!!! This is an AWESOME protective style. I will literally not touch my hair for 2 months, while wearing this. The care of my actual hair underneath wig is simple. I would co wash my hair (while in braids) apply the LOC method and let it air dry. Once this is complete, then the wig goes back on my head. Length retention is no question while rocking this. The front of my head is done in loose flat twist, to protect my edges.. I have lost them before, when I was an avid braid wearer. I am NOT trying to lose my edges again! LOL! Tammy is only $19.99, and for those who are afraid to color their tresses (Raises hand, I) This is a great alternative for you! I am REALLY feeling this hair color on me, and LAAAWWDDDDD knows I wanna spice up my natural hair, but I’m afraid it will break off, with a permanent color.. So maybe I’ll look for a semi permanent color that resembles… Hmmm I don’t know.. But yes ladies, I just wanted to share my “HOLY GRAIL” of wigs with you all!! There is one other follower of mine who I believe wears the same style and it’s also her holy grail wig as well!! Great minds think alike!!! I love you all and HAPPY GROWING! MUAHHH!!!

A Letter to Those who Rock with ME!

I have looked at my last post and noticed they were 7 days apart…. *GRASP* this life I live is HECTIC at times! Full time job, part time student in college, a part time job, the gym, AND a relationship?!!! By the grace of God I’m still functioning! LOL! However, when I started this blog back in December of 2013 I told myself, the sole purpose of this blog was to help naturals, transitioning, and relaxed ladies like myself. I have been through ALL 3 stages just now listed and let me tell you.. It’s a STRUGGLE for all 3! But I got through them all! Loving my natural coils, a big chop was the best thing I could have ever done! I remember when I did my 1st big chop at 10yrs of age I remember feeling so alone, because back then there was no Youtube, or anything else of the sort that could help me out with how to deal with my hair. LOL! Can you imagine being in elementary school with a LEGIT bald fade? Nah, I’m sure you can’t.. The perm I received (at home in my mom’s kitchen) DESTROYED my hair, there was no choice but to call it all off.. At 10?!! Lord, I will say this.. That period of 10-12 built hella character for me.. I got into my first fist fight because a peer of mine called me a “bull dyke” I did NOT know what the hell it was, I just knew I didn’t like the sound of it! So I tagged that ass! Lmao! Fast forward 17yrs later I have had at least 2 more relaxers put into my head when I said ENOUGH WAS ENOUGH!!! I could speak all day in regards to my journey with my hair and I. But I won’t I will KEEP BLOGGING despite my busy schedule because I want to help anyone I can embrace the hair God has given to him. I love to talk, and meet new people, so yes.. I’m here to stay! Love you all! And I want to thank every single 37 of my followers for rocking with the kid! I won’t let you down! Just be patient with me! *Kisses*
